Terrell Herring has spent the last six years as president of commercial operations at Mission Pharmacal Company in San Antonio. Having played basketball during his time at the Citadel Military College of South Carolina, Terrell Herring continues to engage in the sport whenever he has the chance. With regards to recreational basketball, not everyone has access to a space as large as a regulation basketball court. In other situations, teams may be too small to properly contest a full-court game. In either case, basketball fans can modify the game by playing half-court basketball. The concept of half-court basketball can be applied to an actual basketball court or to any single-hoop setting, such as a driveway. Following any score in a game of half-court basketball, the offensive team must take the ball to the top of the arc, or some other designated area, to begin a new possession. To initiate play, players much check the ball. Checking the ball involves the offensive player passing to an opponent, who immediately returns the ball to begin play. In the event of a steal or live ball turnover, the basketball must be dribbled or passed behind the designated boundary before the offensive team can attempt to score. For the most part, half-court basketball rules mirror that of traditional basketball. However, players can follow official three-on-three half-court rules to further simplify the game. For example, jump ball scenarios during a half-court game generally result in the defensive team receiving the ball. |
